Fellow "l-ers",
Here are my two bututs on this "Pregnant Girl issue. I cannot
-with my limited knowledge of Sharia- see any instance where Islamic Sharia
Law would be so hyprocritical as to punish the girl only and not the guy
too.
In all instances of adultery and/ fornication, punishments are
sanctioned for both male and female parties. We probably do not have all the
facts on this Nigerian girl's case but I would definitely imagine that
Sharia dealt with him too unless he were unknown (ie, the girl refused to
disclose his identity and / he isn't man enough to claim his blood).
Therefore, it is my uninformed opinion that unless the father
of the baby were unknown, Islamic Sharia Law would extend him no amnesty (or
maybe the enforcers are the hypocrites).
It used to be in the Gambia that girls would be thrown out of
school when they got pregnant and no mention would be made of the baby's
father by the school authorities whether or no he was attending the same
school. I imagine this might have changed somewhat.
This had nothing to do with Sharia Law but is idealistically
western-educatedly chauvinistic.
Time hasn't permitted me to delve further into this issue and
I hope I haven't done it any injustice.
