Dear Haruna,

The right wing has gone off the deep end over health care.

Sarah Palin targeted Democrats who voted for the bill with an image of gun-sight crosshairs. Rush Limbaugh pledged to "defeat these bastards." One Republican shouted "baby killer!" on the House floor.

I defend dissent with every fiber of my being, but these rantings have gone way over the top. They're dangerous.

And now, at least 36 Republican Senate candidates running in 2010 vow to repeal health care for the American people.

If you want to fight these distortions, give to the DSCC. Show Republicans that we are more united and more energized than ever. We're only $124,660 away from our goal, but the deadline is midnight Wednesday - 24 hours away.

Click here to rush $5 or more to the DSCC. They need $124,660 in the next 24 hours and every dollar will help them fight Republican misinformation.

I know a little something about the fact that standing up for what's right can bring out the worst in the right wing. They can't win on facts, so they'll try to win on smears, manipulation, and intimidation. They want nothing more than to repeal health care and make Barack Obama a one-term president.

I've got one message for all the Tea Party haters who took aim at everyone from John Lewis to Barney Frank: We're not backing down.

The American people have been struggling for decades with skyrocketing health care costs and out-of-control insurance companies that deny care when people need it most.

So Democrats stood up for what's right and passed historic health care reform.

But the sad truth is that bringing real change makes Democrats real targets. Remember the Supreme Court says that the right wing's corporate allies can use unlimited funds to spread ugly rhetoric, manipulate voters with blatant distortions of the truth, and undermine everything President Obama and other Democrats are doing to move this country forward.

That's what the DSCC is up against, and the only way - the only way - they can fight back is with your support. They need $124,660 from the grassroots in the next 24 hours and I'm going to make sure they get it.

I've been there before. I've seen what can happen when honest debate is trumped by dishonorable falsehoods. We cannot afford to be caught flat-footed.

Everything we've worked so hard to achieve and everything President Obama promises for the future is at stake. The DSCC needs you right away so they can fight back against the lies and take a stand for what's right.

Sincerely,

John Kerry
