Gambia Escapes Suspension by Olympic CommitteeShareThe Gambia escapes yet another suspension after the government at the last minutes, allowed access to the nation’s Olympic offices for the local committee. This came after a dispute after the Gambia government interfered into the running of the local offices and the warning from the OIC for the government to desist from interference.The OIC spokesman, Mark Adam said that they received reports that the government finally gave away after their strong warning and the local staff were allowed access to the offices again.“The government has agreed to abide by the agreements reached in Lausanne one month ago,” Adams wrote. “This is a positive development but the IOC will continue to monitor the situation closely.”Recently countries such as India, Kuwait, Ghana and Panama were suspended from the international sports body for political interference, but all of them were eventually re-instated. Suspensions means that national Olympic athletics cannot take part in the Olympic events, the national office cannot attend OIC meetings and receives no funding from the OIC.Momodou Dibba, the GNOC head called the move “a goodwill gesture” from the Minister of Sports, when the government allowed him and his staff were allowed in the office last minute, after being locked out since last April.
