Ahmadiyyans react tAhmadiyyans react to Imam Fatty

A group of 22 Ahmadiyyans, Tuesday, dismissed as 'baseless' State House Mosque imam, Abdoulie Fatty's recent description of their movement as a 'threat to Islam'.

Spokesman for the group, Mustapha Jaiteh, who claimed to be a graduate of Islamic studies in Saudi Arabia, said Imam Fatty's statement was 'malicious, baseless and unfounded." He said their movement is a respectable one.

"We believe in God and we never interfere in anyone's beliefs and nobody has the right to condemn or criticise anybody's beliefs," he protested.

Mr Jaiteh intimated that their movement is "peace-loving as stipulated in many verses of the Holy Qur'an and, as a result, we are not out to create trouble through religious confrontation. Ahmadiyyans have been always been patient to Imam Fatty's continued criticism and now something should be done to put a stop to such attacks."

Ebrima Jawneh, a teacher, said Imam Fatty's "provocations" of their movement should be stopped.

Fatou Sowe, a computer student, noted that Ahmadiyyans have contributed positively to the education and health of the country and as a result, "do not deserve such unreasonable attacks."

Ms Sowe said that such statements from the strident State House Mosque imam, "will not be condoned again. It was because of attacks like this that some of the institutions (Ahmadiyyan hospital and schools) were closed."

However, the Ahmadiyyan speakers did not indicate on what they will do to stop Imam Fatty's condemnation of their movement..
