My people were way out of their depth, and they were chewed raw by the Professor.
Before 1994, an overwhelming majority of the Clan supported Jawara's government of civilian kleptocrats, and bloated, so-called security chiefs, all delusional about their significance to national survival. To the great chagrin of my father, I rejected Jawara's government of incompetents, and proudly supported the 1994 military intervention.Though the 1994 train unquestionably left the tracks, I have no philosophical regrets about supporting the overthrow of a worthless government. What happened in 1994 was right on the merits, and I still celebrate it.
On issues of Gambian public life, I take no instructions from the absolutely marginal considerations of Clan and family.

So Suntou it seems like they were not forced or coerced into joining Yahya. All indications are that this was voluntary. There may be an undercurrent of intraclan disdains which we cannot readily discern, but even if there were such, we cannot blame this positive choice on that. That would have been cutting your nose to spite your face and if I know anything about the darbos, they don't make silly decisions and they love life. Also, Yahya himself admitted that the elder Jiki Darbo has been doing favors for him long before he became President (Jiki used to own a gas station where yahya benefitted from free Gas) and after 1994, Jiki was always with APRC.
