We admit that even though Gambia purports to have a constitution, the citizens of Gambia are not accorded rights guaranteed by that constitution. This is because the custodians of that constitution, the judiciary, is an extension of the AFPRC executive and or Yahya Jammeh. Where disputes arise among citizens or between the state and others, the judiciary abandons its sacrosanct duty to interpret the constitution to afford contending parties a semblance of just relief. Occasionally, in a coup de reveille, when the judiciary renders judgement or a mere injunction against the state, it is casually disregarded or the justice official unceremoniously removed. The cardinal legal principle of recusal does not provide secours to mitigate against conscientious judges and Magistrates. The only option is exile.

Amid this climate, appropriately summed up by Amnesty International as one of unbridled fear, can you imagine the ware of human rights lawyers such as Mariam Denton and Mai Fatty among others. Further, imagine that these brave souls defend the indigent of law and fortune, PRO-BONO (Free of CHarge). Surely there is something to be said of such ultimate sacrifice for other than self.

Hon. Fatty has defended many such Gambian to include the erstwhile Hon. Waa Juwara. Hon. Fatty has been imprisoned more times than any Gambian, and he has endured excruciating torture in the service of the lesser of us. Surely, and at minimum, grace demands gratitude. Thank you Hon. Fatty and Miss Denton for all you have and continue to do for your fellow citizens.

The new Gambia Congress Party is yet another installment toward that calling... The salvation of the ordinary Gambian, and because of our extended yet close-knit communities, the extra-ordinary Gambian. Go hither, do good work, and stay in touch. Du Courage mon frere and I pray for Allah/God's sustenance for you Hon. Fatty and the Gambia Congress Party.

Most respectfully,

Haruna Darbo.
