Hi!

This is from the Observer Online. I smell a pathetic attempt to cover up what really happened to Ebrima. I hope justice prevails.

DID AUTOPSY REPORT SAY EBRIMA BARRY DIED OF NATURAL CAUSES?

Sources close to Brikama police, have claimed that the autopsy report has been released on the death of Ebrima Barry, a grade 10 student of Forster's Senior Secondary School, who was allegedly tortured to death by some personnel of the Brikama fire and ambulance services.

"The autopsy report indicated that Ebrima Barry's death was due to natural causes. The autopsy report did not make mention of any torture inflicted on Ebrima Barry as responsible for his death," the source claimed.

Controversy

The alleged autopsy report is said to have attracted a lot of controversy in Brikama with people speculating on an attempt at a cover-up to exonerate the five officers who were alleged to have tortured Barry. "Everybody is surprised with the doctor's report. I personally questioned the credibility of the autopsy report," said one policeman.

Was Barry tortured?

Our sources said on the day of the incident, Demba Manneh of Lamin, said to be Ebrima Barry's school mate, went to the Brikama police station carrying Ebrima on his back to lodge the complaint of his torture.

Our sources said Ebrima himself explained to the Brikama police prior to his death how he was allegedly tortured by the Brikama fire officers."Ebrima Barry complained that he had general body and stomach pains. He told us that he was mercilessly beaten by the Brikama firemen. A woman police officer was detailed to escort Ebrima Barry to the Brikama Health Centre.

The WPC later returned to the station and reported that Ebrima Barry had been admitted," said our source.

Who is fireman Sgt Gomez?

Our Sources intimated that when the Brikama fire station was contacted by the police, one Sgt Gomez went to the Brikama police station and claimed "Ebrima Barry was never beaten by the firemen."| He told the police that they only shaved Ebrima Barry's hair. He said they did that because they received a complaint from Ebrima Barry's teacher who said that Ebrima threatened to assault him with a broken bottle.

No firemen were arrested

Our source pointed out that none of the firemen on duty were arrested following the mysterious death of Ebrima Barry. "All the investigations were done at the Brikama fire station. The detective officers visited the five station to interview the firemen on duty on the day in question," our sources hinted.

However, in an earlier interview with this newspaper, Boto Sanneh, Ebrima Barry's mother, alleged that her son died as a result of the torture by the fire service men.

When contacted yesterday for clarification, Landing Badjie, head of police serious crime unit, said that he has received the postmortem report but was unable to divulge its contents at that point in time. Later, the police PRO, Inspector Abdoulie Sanyang, confirmed that the post-mortem report was received by the crime management boss who was not available to give him details.
