I'll urge all DC residents to take advantage of this opportunity to save
on Rx drugs in light of the exorbitant burden caused by the recent and
rapid increase in the cost of Healthacre in America.

Drug Discounts Are Offered to Uninsured

Mayor Anthony A. Williams (D) unveiled a program yesterday that offers
prescription drug discounts to District residents who do not have coverage
through health insurance plans.

The DC Rx card will provide an average savings of 20 percent on
prescription drugs and may be used by any D.C. resident, regardless of age
or income. About 75,000 District residents are uninsured, according to the
mayor's office.

The discount plan is funded through a program sponsored by the National
Association of Counties and is similar to one in Montgomery County.

The mayor said yesterday that the DC Rx card will be accepted at 98
percent of pharmacies in the District as well as at supermarkets. The
discount cannot be used in conjunction with other insurance coverage.
