Haruiner, I agree with some of your suggestion while others are really impossible considering its correlation to the reality on the ground. Halifa Sallah's sacrifice for his friend have nothing whatsoever to do with the agreement of the forest into whether it should be cut down or remain alive. In mobilising the public, motives have to be build toward their security and that motives cannot be build without the unity of the leaders in question.
However, if unity of opposition could not materialised, the biggest party should therefore mobilise the people single handedly but that seems to be out of question and unthinkable, therefore the smallest party who sees it important but will not be able to gather more people have nothing or no one to put to that risk of sacrifice but himself agree? this exactly is what is motivation Halifa's to go it alone. And if he succeeded, it is not on the benefit of only Sam Sarr but all other journalist incarcerated
Secondly, I agree with you partly on this fact that (the freedom of Halifa will be valuable to Sam's freedom than sacrificing to be incarcerated). Reading the interview, I realised the above mentioned was his last resort not the immediate one. In other words, if he exhaust from trying various means including talking with African leaders. To be honest, truth will never prevail to the people if their leaders are not willing to lead or be jailed just to see them free. It matters not anymore, whether he or she did it on selfishness ground or not, what matters is taking a leadership step which Halifa is seen doing. Say it is to score political points which politician is not doing that if he or she wanted to survive? Edi
